Frequently Asked Questions
-
Elsewhere is a secular organisation for Ex-Muslims, founded by an Ex-Muslim woman named Ayesha. We support people recovering from religious trauma and offer therapy, community, education and resources.
-
Our programs are open to Ex-Muslims in any country.
While our virtual community and group therapy program has been designed specifically for Ex-Muslims, our counselling services are open to anyone affected by religious trauma.
-
Elsewhere does not shy away from the serious harm that can be caused and justified by religion, especially when it comes to Islam.
However, we are not an anti-religious organisation. Our focus is not on criticising religion/Islam, but rather supporting and amplifying the voices of those who have experienced harm because of it.

Yes.
Elsewhere understands the serious safety risks faced by Ex-Muslims. We take privacy and security very seriously, and we will never share your information without your informed consent.

That’s okay! Many of our participants are in this situation. We have had times when people have to leave suddenly (eg. if someone walks into their room), and that’s perfectly okay. We understand. Above all else, we want you to be safe and cautious.
As long as you have a safe, private space to talk for 2 hours each week, you can participate in the group therapy program. Individual counselling sessions only require 1 hour, at any time/day that suits you.

Please note that Elsewhere is a mental health service. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources, funding or expertise to provide support with relocation or seeking asylum.

If you are in immediate danger, please contact your local emergency services.

The Elsewhere Journal is open to submissions from anyone with lived experience of leaving Islam. This is a space to anonymously share your story, voice your unfiltered opinions and show the world that Ex-Muslims do have a voice, and we’re not afraid to use it.
